1. Try the Flavor of the City’s Pride

Roxas City, aside from being the center of commerce and capital of the province of Capiz, it is also the seafood capital of the Philippines. Well, I’m sure that you won’t argue with me if I say that one of the most exciting things to do in Roxas City is to savor its fresh marine catch.

Barangay Baybay, where the People’s Park and the famed Baybay beach is located, offers plenty of options for your cravings. Choose your favorite seafood and have the vendors cook it fresh for you.

2. Pay a Visit to the Home of Asia’s Largest Church Bell

It was made out of 70 sacks of coins and measures measures 7 feet in diameter, 5 feet in height. The bell, which is called locally as Dakong Lingganay, weighs a hardly comprehensible, 10.4 tons. It’ll probably cripple you off when it falls to your foot. Dakong Lingganay is currently hanged in the top floor of the belfry of Santa Monica Parochial Church in the Municipality of Panay, 8 kms east of Roxas, and continues to ring for its patrons.

The Roxas Museum a.k.a. Ang Panubli-on houses important artifacts that contain the bits and pieces of the history of Capiz. It also exhibits the accomplishments of the province’s notable residents and exquisite paintings drawn by Capiznon artists. Among the centerpieces are the National Artist Awards medal for Daisy Hontiveros-Avellana in the field of Theater, the painting entitled Sulat Para Cay M. by Ivi Avellana-Cosio which contains the lament letter for her mother written in Baybayin alphabet, and, of course, the bust of former President Manuel A. Roxas for whom the City got its name.

4. Check out the Birthplace of the Former President

The birthplace of the person for whom the city was named after was located in the city proper. Few blocks from the City Hall, the ancestral house of President Manuel Roxas sits proudly in the corner of Zamora and Rizal Streets.

5. Say a Little Prayer at Immaculate Conception Cathedral

The majestic altar, the high ceiling, the towering columns, and the enchanting chandeliers add to the solemnity of this religious site. You can spend some ample time here to rethink or cleanse one’s mind from naughty thoughts.

7. Take a Relaxing Short Walk in the Downtown

Roxas City received the Cleanest and Greenest Component City in Western Visayas Award in the Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran (GPK) Cleanliness and Environmental contest, thus, one healthy option you can have here is to take a short walk and sweat a bit to flush some extra calories. Don’t worry with the air quality, the GPK had already spoken.
