Kushi Kazu: A Must-Try Japanese “Carinderia” in Cebu
Ramen is a personal favorite. I could finish a large bowl in one sitting. However, I couldn’t have it as often as I wanted to. The price tag is not something that I can afford for everyday munch. So, when a friend recommended to try the ramen offered in a Japanese “carinderia” along Ayala access Road near Gorordo Avenue intersection, I visited the eatery immediately after office. The stall is pretty small, it can only accommodate up to 8 diners at any given time. The kitchen is cramped too, you can see them prepare your food. The menu is printed on laminated paper ... Indulging with the Creole Treat of Murray’s New Orleans Cebu
Oysters, shrimps, and pork sausages are mainstays – that was the only info I have about Creole cooking. I never tried one either, and was never curious. Aside from being rare in the Philippines, only few restaurants specialize such cuisine – most of them are too pricey. Creole traces back to Louisiana, more particularly in Big Easy or New Orleans. You may think of haunted houses, vampire movies, all-night parties, and the Mardi Gras. My idea about New Orleans though is obscure, and tainted mostly with fiction. I must admit, the lowdown I have about the Big Easy is almost next to nothing. New Orleans interior features ... Read more
Extra Hot Treat by Gibbs Hot Wings
The second to the last stop of the first ever Cebu Food Crawl, a foodie event organized by Cebu Bloggers’ Society (CBS), was Gibbs Hot Wings. I did not have any expectation. But the idea of having a hot and spicy treat after almost a day of great munch is worth anticipating. After our coffee break, we were driven to the Streetscape Lifestyle Mall branch of the Gibbs. Coy Oliva, the restaurant owner, warmly greeted us. He even talked about the humble beginnings of the business. A feast courtesy of Gibbs’ Hot Wings “We started simple. Our hot wing have ... A Barbecue Feast at Larsian BBQ in Fuente
I could hardly choose the best deal. Barbecue vendors were rushing to swank about their freebies and discounts. After carefully scrutinizing their offers, we had selected a spot for our chomp. The promise of unlimited free soup and great bill discount influenced our decision to side Eliza’s, a barbecue shop within Larsian. The crew lead us to our seats. The chitchats of the other group beside us were apparent. The normal office rants and the random day-to-day perturbation were the usual topics. The other side, on the hand, talked about relationship and stuff. Larsian BBQ options The Experience The illumination ... Read more
Cebu Must-Try: STK ta Bay! Paolito’s Seafood House
A college friend, Mico, and his girlfriend, Jessica, visited Cebu for a job-related event. It wasn’t really his trip but Jessica’s and he just tagged along, with explicit permission, I guess. Anyway, being based in Cebu, I was tasked to show them around and have them try a Cebuano feast. That time, I was fairly new in Cebu, so I asked my current officemates for recommendations. “STK ta Bay! Paolito’s Seafood House” was among the list. We decided to try it on our day 2 dinner. STK ta Bay! sa Paolito’s Seafood House What greeted us was a gallery of distinguished ... Read more
Lantaw SRP: An Al Fresco Seaside Dining in Cebu
Being reachable only with private cars and taxis, Lantaw SRP isn’t really for everybody. Though perched within a not-so-inviting location, people frequent the place to experience their al fresco dining and taste the sumptuous dishes on their list. The restaurant made quite a buzz to the city’s working class, and our curious palates told us to try. When we got a chance, we dashed to the restaurant, tagging along our guest. Open Air Dining Area adorned with hanging paddle boats The location isn’t really noticeable, most especially if it’s your first time. In fact, we passed over the place without ... Read more
M’s Place: Must-Try Snack Bar in Siquijor
I’ve been stranded for two days in Siquijor for two days as of this writing. This is all because of tropical depression Seniang which turned into a storm and now, a typhoon. When I had nothing left to do in my 350-peso room near the port, I walked around the town, then I found this snack bar along Caridad Street. I am reluctant to try unfamiliar food houses, however, when I saw that they had plenty of patrons (judging on the number of customers), I checked the place. M’S Place I noticed that most of the guests ordered siopao so I thought ... Read more
Rico’s Fastfood & Restaurant: Lutong-Bahay Eat-All-You-Can
It rained the whole day and night and I wasn’t really familiar with the place so I preferred to stay indoors. For the entire weekend, I nestled under the reliable roof and above the comfort of my hotel bed. It was a life that I wasn’t used to. So from time to time, I went out to check the condition outside. And when I noticed that the weather was still not conducive to outdoor activities, I went back in, turned my TV on, and scanned every channel that might be entertaining. It was check out time the following day and the ... Read more
