Henry Sy and Family leads 15 Filipino Billionaires

Mall magnate Henry Sy and his family still remain as Philippines’ wealthiest, topping the Forbes list of Philippine richest with a net worth of $9.1 billion or some ₱385 billion. The family does not only control the Philippine retail business but is also a leader in real estate development, banking, and investments. The family also holds a significant  share in power and grid industry.

The Sy Family is listed 116th in a list of the world’s billionaires topped by Mexican telecommunication mogul Carlos Slim, having $69 billion worth of riches.

Lucion Tan, with less than half of the Sys’ wealth, comes second at $4.5 billion. Tan owns a majority or significant minority stocks in Philippine National Bank, Allied Bank, Philip Morris-Fortune Tobacco Corp., Philippine Airlines, Century Park Hotel, Asia Brewery, Tanduay Holdings, Eton Properties, University of the East, etc.

Bloombury Resorts and Hotels’ and International Container Services Inc.’s Enrique Razon Jr. placed third with $3.6 billion. Razon operates the Philippines local and international ports and was been granted a provisional license to establish and operate a gaming complex in the Bagong Nayong Pilipino Entertainment City. The luxurious 500-room Solaire Manila is one of his projects in the said complex.

John Gokongwei Jr. and family land in the fourth place with $3.2 billion while David Consunji and family completed the top five with $2.7 billion.

Meanwhile, the businessman behind Mang Inasal, the architect-turned entrepreneur Edgar Sia made a debut on the list at $140 million.
